Alex Rivas was born on July 22, 1988 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Alex is a business owner, entrepreneur, yoga teacher, and translator. Alex volunteers for many YSI and Geshe Michael Roach events as part of the production crew doing voice-overs, subtitling, and translating. Alex loves to teach Lady Niguma Yoga with the Yoga Studies Institute and is one of the core teachers in the organization. Alex brings teachings on healthy living, emptiness, and seeds to school children in Mexico in his work with the Green Stretch Pen.
In his business life, Alex took the wisdom on seeds and created multiple successful health food stores. Working along with his wife, their goal is to protect life through providing vegetarian foods and sustainable products that don’t harm the environment.
Alex and his wife have two kids, a 11 year old and a 7 year old. Both kids practice yoga and use the seed system already!

Why practice with Yoga Studies Institute?
We do yoga different. If you've taken our other courses and classes, then you already know that! When practice is based in original yogic wisdom, it just feels different.
We source our material from over 2 million pages of classic Asian texts which have been preserved and digitized by our partners at the Asian Legacy Library. Together, our teams have taken painstaking measures to translate, understand, and apply the original yogic texts so that we could share them with you in the most clear and easy-to-apply ways.
Having a lineage of authentic wisdom is important. But we believe this information needs to be integrated through years of practice and meditative contemplation. Many of our instructors have completed over 1000 days of silent meditation retreat practicing yoga and synthesizing this knowledge into experiential wisdom.
Who is Lady Niguma?
Lady Niguma is considered one of the most important and influential yoginis of 10-11th century India.
The woodblock prints of her asana system were recently rediscovered, and are now considered to be the oldest known recorded yoga asana sequence.
This tradition has come down through an unbroken line from Lady Niguma herself over 1,000 years. But this is the first time her wisdom has been made available this way. By pouring over decades of study and practice, years and years of silent retreat, our team has poured their experience and wisdom into these courses for you.
Why study her system?
Mastery of Lady Niguma’s yoga has the ability to radically transform a practitioner’s experience of the world in a very short period of time.
By combining the outer methods of the physical elements of yoga with the inner practices of the traditional and ancient systems, results manifest more quickly.
This is how we get answers to life's biggest questions.
